Throughout history, women have dreaded shopping for The Swimsuit, and for some good reasons. Unless you spend hours at the gym everyday, chances are traditional swimsuits just do not look or feel right. They are also not very functional. They chaff, bunch up and tend to show off every single imperfection. Luckily, there are some options for women who are sick of stuffing themselves into traditional swimsuits.
Stay Active with Boardshorts
Boardshorts are different from swim trunks. They have a longer length and wider leg, which means they cover up more thigh. The enclosure is also more secure; most will have Velcro as well as a drawstring. You can even find designs that have usable pockets! Depending on your individual style, you can choose boardshorts made for women or men. The main difference is the coloring and the length. Shorts for women tend to be shorter, and they will have softer color patterns. The great thing about these is their versatility. They are made to be worn in water, but dry quickly and are perfectly acceptable to be worn as normal shorts. This means you can go swimming, play some volleyball, and then eat at your favorite dinner without changing. Tomboys can run, dive, and play beach-side games without worrying about the bottom of the swimsuit bunching up. They also offer protection from hot surfaces like patio chairs.
Choose Your Swim Top
Once you have your boardshorts, you still need a decent top. There are plenty of options, so choosing one that works for you will not be difficult. One option is to choose a regular bathing suit top. Depending on how confident you are, you can pick a bikini top or a longer top from a two-piece. If you are planning on being active, another option is a sports bra. These offer more support than bikinis and regular swimsuit tops. You will be able to run and dive without worrying about the bounce or falling out of your swimsuit. Choose one that has a Lycra or Spandex material, since it will dry out faster. Also, pick a darker color like black. If this is too revealing, consider using a quick-dry or compression shirt. These are intended for runners and other athletes, but they can be used in the water as well. Most have UV protection, they dry fast, and they are light when wet. There are both tanks and T-shirts, and they can be found for men and women. Simply tuck them into your board shorts, and you are all set. This gives you a sporty look, and again, you will not have to change between activities. Wear a sports bra or regular swimsuit top under them.
Find What Works for You
It is important to find something that will work for you. If you are not planning on being very active, there are wraps and sundresses that will give you an elegant look while covering up a bit. Wetsuits used only to be popular among divers, but people are starting to use these as swimwear. They are insulated and protect your skin from the sun. Finding something that works for the activities you are planning to participate in is very important.
You do not have to wear an uncomfortable bathing suit this summer! Be creative and find something that allows you to be as active as you want and that is convenient to wear. Being stylish at the beach does not mean forcing yourself into a skimpy and uncomfortable swimsuit. Enjoy this summer by being comfortable at the pool or beach!
